The kandaleru Reservoir is an important balancing Reservoir. Kandaleru is one of the biggest ground Reservoir in Asia having a total earth dam length of 10.752 kms with a storage capacity of 68.03 TMC with a maximum height of water column of 49.000 Mts. Kandaleru Reservoir receives Krishna and Penna Flood waters from Somasila Reservoir through Somasila- Kandaleru Flood Flow Canal and it has a small self catchment which contributing 3 TMC only.

The width of extent of law required in Nernoor RF is ranging from 130 Mts to 20 Mts in the reach form KM 0.075 TO KM 0.575.

The second huge water body in the district, Kandaleru reservoir, is still facing teething problems where the canal system from Somasila Reservoir is supplying only insufficient water flow of 11,000 cusecs. At the time of huge inflows from the Rayalaseema region, Somasila reservoir releases water for storage in Kandaleru, which is failing to utilise the opportunity to store water up to its full capacity.
