Nanneshwara Temple – Lakkundi

About

Nanneshwara Temple is small and resembles the famous Kasivisvesvara Temple, which is much bigger in size. It is an Ekakuta Temple.

It was built using a unique material called soapstone which was a prominently used by the Chalukyas and the Hoysalas during the 12th – 13th century AD. It is constructed over a raised platform which usually calls it Jagati and consists of a Mandapa with highly ornate pillars. This Mandapa ends in a small closed hall that leads to the Garbhagraha.

Lakkundi Utsava

Lakkundi Utsava is an annual festival held in the town of Lakkundi, near Gadaga in north Karnataka. Lakkundi Utsava falls in February/March every year. Special Programs are like Folk dances & songs, Musical performances, Dance performances, Stand-up comedy and Fireworks show.

Special Pooja and light decorations at temples of Lakkundi (Brahma Jinalaya, Kashi Vishvanatha Temple, Nanneshwara temple etc)
