Pallikondeswara Temple – Surutupalli

About

Generally, In any Temple’s Lord Shiva appears in the form of Linga. There is a shrine in Surutupalli pallikondeswara Temple where Lord Shiva is also seen in a sleeping posture (about 6 feet) like Sri Mahavishnu.

History of Surutupalli Temple

Halahalam was first born when churning in milk for the nectar. While the halahalam was burning the world’s, the terrified Surasuras cried out to Lord Shiva to save the world’s. So Lord Shiva swallowed the poison and hid it in his throat. However, Lord Shiva, who was overwhelmed by the poisonous effect, rested on Parvati’s lap for a while. Sri Maha Vishnu remained in the throat with the subtle body to stop the garalam going into the stomach. The poison remained in the throat and the whole area turned blue. Since then, Lord Shiva has become known as Neela Kantudu and Sri Maha Vishnu as Neelimegha Shyamunudu. This scene was seen in Suratapally. Surula Palli derives its name from the place where the Surus descended. Over time, the area became known as Suratu Palli.

In Pradosha Time more pooja will be done to Nandi compate to lord Shiva, as he stops all gods, who came to have Lord Shiva’s Darshan when he was taking rest.

Lord Vinayaka, Subrahmanya Swamy along with his consorts, Vishnu, Brahma, Dakshina Murthy, Valmikeeswarar and Goddess Marahathambihai are also present in this temple.
