Sri Gnana Saraswati Temple – Basara

About Sri Gnana Saraswati Temple

When the temple was vandalized about 200 years ago, a man by the name of Makkaji Patel and some others chased the vandals away.

Following the battle of Kurukshetra, Vedavyasa came to Dandakaranya with his son Shakuni in search of peace. Maharshi Vedavyasa visited Jagannatha and gave him the mandate to erect a temple in honor of the three grandmothers.

To set up the idols of the three gods, Vyasa brought three buckets of sand from the river. As a result of Vyasa’s extended residence in this area, the town was first known as Vyasapuri, then Vyasara, and later acquired the name “Basara ” as a result of the Maharashtrian residents. Here, worship is offered and yellow paint is used to decorate the sand idols created by Vyasa. It is firmly held that ingesting this turmeric on its own will bestow upon you excellent knowledge and wisdom.

According to the Brahmanda Purana, Adi Kavi Valmiki composed the Ramayana in praise of Goddess Saraswati. This temple is close to the Valmiki Maharshi Samadhi marble rock. It is thought to be one of the three temples the Ashtrakutas erected along the Manjira and Godavari rivers.

King Bijalu, who ruled the Nandagiri region with Nanded as his capital in the sixth century, is credited with building this temple in Basara.

Basara Saraswathi temple is most famous for Aksharabhyasam and most people are visiting this temple for their children Aksharabhyasam. Making sure that kids learn to read and write is highly prioritized here at the Saraswati temple. These Tridevi idols are Vyasa Pratisthita, which makes them unique.
