While on the way to climb the hill, we can see many crows but we cannot see a single crow on the hill. So far there are no records of crows coming up this hill. The hill is a divine sanctum sanctorum in the form of Lord Shiva Trikoteshwar, the ruler of Kailash. Lord Shiva, who is loved by the devotees as Yallamanda Kotayya, resides in Kotappakonda and flourishes as the scorpion gold of the devotees.
According to the mythology, after breaking the Daksha Yajna, Lord Shiva transformed himself into a little boy and while Dakshinamurti was undergoing severe penance in Kailasa, Lord Brahma visited Dakshinamoorthy Swamy with the deities and asked him to enlighten them.
Lord Shiva said that he would give wisdom to the Brahmins when they came to Trikutachala, while Lord Brahma came to Trikutachala and received enlightenment from Lord Shiva. The temple at this place is called Old Kotappa Temple/Gudi. The inner penis is one foot high.
The peak where this temple is located is called Rudra Peak. It is believed that Vishnu performed penance here for Lord Shiva. The Papanasheshwara Temple and the Papanasha Tirtha are located here. Brahmashikhara is the name given to the southwestern peak of Rudra. Rudravishnu worries that there will be spontaneous Jyotirlingas on the peaks and that there will be nothing on this peak. This is the Brahmashikhara.
The Trikoteshwara Swamy Temple is located here. At first, the Brahmadi deities and all the subconscious surrounded Lord Shiva here. Hence the name.
According to another account, Sundudu, a Yadava, lived with his wife Kundiri in Kondakavoor, south of the Trikuta hills. They became rich as soon as their first child, a beautiful daughter named Anandavalli (Gollabhama) was born. Slowly she became a devotee of Shiva. Rudra started offering prayers at the old Koteshwara temple on the hill.
Eventually, she lost interest in her physical life. She used to visit Rudra hill every day. Penance even in summer. Pleased with her penance, Lord Shiva appears before her as Jangama Deva and blesses her to become pregnant even though she is a virgin, to make her hopeful of material life. She continued her daily prayers as usual without caring about her pregnancy. He reappeared for her deep devotion and told her that he did not have to bother climbing and descending the hill to worship. He promised her that he would come to her house and ordered her to go home.
However, he advised her not to look back even once when going home. From Rudra hill, Anandavalli reached Brahma hill on the way to her house, she became suspicious and turned back. The moment she retreated, leaving the promise given to her, Jangam entered a cave on the hill of God and became linga. This holy place is popularly known as the New Koteshwara Temple. To test her devotion, she realized that her womb was his creation. She was united in God. Gollabhama Gudi was built at the bottom of the temple.
Local legend says that this temple was built by Salankayya. When seen from any angle on this hill (triads) three peaks can be seen. Hence the name Trikutachalamani. Thus the Swami here became Trikutachaleswara. These three peaks are considered to be the forms of Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra. The historic Trikoteshwara Temple dates back to 1172 AD, according to the inscriptions of the late Chola king Kulothunga Chola king and feudal lord Muranginayu. Sri Krishnadevaraya, one of the many kings who ruled the place, donated large tracts of land for the maintenance of the temple.
Zamindars of Narasaraopet, Chilakaluripet, Amravati, and others made various donations for the development of the Sri Trikoteswara Swamy Temple. Kotappa hill is 1587 feet high. Sri Trikoteswara Swamy Temple is located at a height of 600 feet. The Sri Trikoteswara Swamy Temple was built in 1761 AD by Sri Raja Malraju Narasimharayani, the landlord of Narasaraopet, with 703 steps leading up to the hill. The Narasaraopet colonists and Raja Malraju dynasties were the permanent trustees of the temple and made many facilities for the devotees.
Development -To reach the Sri Trikoteswara Swamy Temple people generally use stairways built by Raja Malraju Narasimharayas. A nice ghat road to the Sri Trikoteswara Swamy Temple was built in 1999 when Kodela Sivaprasadarao was the minister to go in vehicles. Vijaya Ganapati and Sai Baba temples are located at the beginning of Ghat Road. On either side of the road are beautiful gardens, a museum at Tova, a deer park, a children’s park, a lake, a statue of Lord Krishna meditating in the middle, statues of Brahma, Lakshminarayanas, Ganesha, and three deities (Lakshmi, Saraswati, Parvati) attracting from a distance.
