Pattisam  Veerabhadra swamy temple is on hill Devakuta in midst of river Godavari and the main deities in this temple are Lord Veera Bhadra Swamy and Goddess Bhadra Kali. Lord Shiva is Self-manifested as Veerabhadra swamy temple. Goddess Sathi as goddess Bhadra Kali. According to the temple’s history, Gautama Buddha did Dhyanam here.

Veerabadhra swamy temple Pattiseema is Pancha Kashi Kshetram. It is Island in Polavaram Mandal.

These five are mentioned in Skanda Purana as Pancha Kasi kshetras. In this order Fifth one is Pattisam temple/Pattisachalam/Pattiseema temple on Devakuta Parvatham.

According to legend once mountains used to have wings when they are landing at that place there was so much loss of people and property. So God’s king Devendra has cut the wings of them. So these mountains are called Devakutadri mountains or Neeladri mountains. Mountain’s king is Karaveera, his son did penance for Lord Shiva and asked Lord to stay on him. Then Lord gave him word to stay there in the form of Shiva Lingam.

After few years Dakshaprajapati did Yagna inviting all Gods and goddesses. But he did not invite Lord Shiva and her daughter goddess Sati Devi. After asking permission goddess went to his father’s Yagna. But his father insulted her and Lord Shiva. Due to this goddess fired herself at Yagna. Due to this Lord Shiva got angry and from his Jatajutam (hair)plucked a lock of hair and thrown to the ground, from that born Veerabhadra Swamy & Bhadrakali.

Then Veerabhadra Swamy cut the head of king Daksha with Pattisa. After killing him the rage of lore is very high. And danced Rudra Thandavam on Devakuta Parvatha. After considering all god’s requests and especially Sage Agasthya embraced him with his hands to cool and make him to calm down. Finally asked to settle here in the form of Shiva Linga on this hillock as mentioned in Skanda Puranam. We can see handprints on Shiva Lingam on the square panel. Veerabhadra Swamy cleaned his Pattisam in this river Godavari. Since then this place is called Pattisam or Pattisachala kshetram.

As per Mythology temple was constructed by Vishwa Karma. According to history temple belongs to the 12th century, constructed by Reddy kings.

Kshetra Palaka of the temple is Bhavannarayana Swamy. The main sub shrine is Lakshmi Sahitha Sri Bhavannaraya Swamy one of Five Bhavannarayana Swamy temples of India located in Andhra Pradesh. Sita Ramabhadra Swamy temple, Kala Bhaivarava temple, Subramanya Swamy, goddess Saraswati, Lakshmi Ganapathi, Suryanarayana Swamy, Sri Tandava Veerabhadra Swamy, and a big Hanuman statue at Pattiseema boating point.

Near to this Devakuta hillock, there is a hill called Elephant hill where god Sri Maha Vishnu gave salvation to Elephant mentioned in Gajendra Moksham.
