Pathala Ganga is a sacred and significant site located in Srisailam, a major pilgrimage center in the Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, India. This place is closely associated with the holy River Krishna, and it’s considered an integral part of the spiritual experience when visiting the Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and also a Shakti Peetha.
The river is worshipped here as a divine manifestation of Goddess Ganga, and devotees believe that a dip in these waters purifies the soul and cleanses one of sins. The term “Pathala” means “underworld” in Sanskrit, and it is believed that the Ganges flows from the netherworld and emerges here, blessing devotees with her presence.
