Chittoor District

Chittoor is one of the four districts in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, with its headquarters at Chittoor. The district was formed on 1 April 1911 from territories transferred from bordering areas — the Chittoor, Palamaner and Chandragiri taluks of the old North Arcot district of Tamil Nadu, the Madanapalle and Voyalpadu taluks of Kadapa district, and the former zamindari areas of Punganur, Srikalahasthi, Puttur and the old Karvetinagar estate. Per the official district website it covers about 6,860 sq km with a population of about 18,73,000.
