Sree Shivaji Spoorthy Kendram is a historical and cultural landmark located approximately 700 meters from the renowned Mallikarjuna Swamy Jyotirlinga Temple in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh. It is dedicated to the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, commemorating his visit to Srisailam in 1677. This memorial not only honors his legacy but also serves as a spiritual and cultural beacon for visitors.

A Glimpse into History: Shivaji’s Connection to Srisailam

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj visited Srisailam in early 1677 during his southern expedition.
Legends suggest that he spent a considerable amount of time here, deeply engrossed in meditation and seeking the blessings of Goddess Bhramarambha.
It’s believed that the Goddess herself appeared before him, urging him to use his sword to face his enemies and uphold Dharma.
As a mark of his profound devotion and respect, Shivaji is said to have contributed to the construction of a gopuram (temple tower) at the Srisailam temple, which is still known as the Shivaji Gopuram today.

What to Explore at Sree Shivaji Spoorthy Kendram

It was built to commemorate this significant visit and to preserve the legacy of a ruler who stood for Hindu values. Construction began in phases, with the installation of a bronze statue of Shivaji in 1994, and the entire complex became fully accessible to the public in 2004.

The Kendram is architecturally divided into two main sections:

Samarth Sabha Mandapam (Ground Floor): A serene hall designed for meditation and spiritual gatherings.
Darbar Hall (First Floor): This grand hall houses a majestic statue of Shivaji Maharaj seated on his throne, surrounded by murals and artworks depicting significant events from his life.

The nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad ~220 km from Srisailam (Approx. 5–6 hours drive). From there hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Srisailam.

The nearest major railway station is Markapur Road (MRK) – ~90 km from Srisailam and Hyderabad (Secunderabad or Kacheguda) – ~220 km. Take a bus or taxi from the station to Srisailam. Markapur Road is the closest, but Hyderabad offers more frequent train services and better road transport to Srisailam.
