Sri Istakameswari Devi Temple, nestled within the dense Nallamala Forest near Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of spirituality, history, and adventure. Dedicated to Goddess Istakameswari Devi, an incarnation of Parvati. The temple is located inside a cave, estimated to date back to the 8th to 10th century and is believed to have been constructed during the Vijayanagara Empire.
The temple’s name, “IstaKameswari,” translates to “Goddess who fulfills desires”. A distinctive feature of the temple is the idol’s forehead, which despite being carved from stone, is said to feel as soft as human skin. Devotees often apply sindoor to this area, seeking blessings and the fulfillment of their wishes. A Vinayaka (Ganesha) statue and flowing streams are present near the entrance.

Online: Available 15 days in advance; 16 tickets released daily at 5:00 AM
Offline: Tickets issued one day prior at 8:00 AM at the Nekkanti Jungle Ride counter in Shikharam; 104 tickets available daily. As the tickets are issued limitedly people will wait from 2 or 3 AM to get the tickets.

How can one reach the Istakameswari Temple?
Visitors must book a forest jeep safari, either online or offline, to reach the forest trailhead.
The ride covers most of the distance, but the last stretch requires a short trek through the forest.
Entry is regulated by the forest department, and advance booking is strongly recommended.

Avoid carrying valuables as the area is remote.

The nearest airport is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad ~220 km from Srisailam (Approx. 5–6 hours drive). From there hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Srisailam.
The nearest major railway station is Markapur Road (MRK) – ~90 km from Srisailam and Hyderabad (Secunderabad or Kacheguda) – ~220 km. Take a bus or taxi from the station to Srisailam. Markapur Road is the closest, but Hyderabad offers more frequent train services and better road transport to Srisailam.
