Sri Markandeya Swamy Temple is situated in Chanda Satram or Satram-Choultry. The explorer focus was at first mixed up as the remains of a mosque, yet later archeological studies discovered the remainders as a major aspect of an antiquated Shiva sanctuary.

The fact that it was thought to be a mosque is fascinating and is not so common. The whole temple complex is decorated with carvings of many kinds these might have been added to the structure later on. Because if the sculptures were there it is impossible to think of it as a mosque as in a mosque, no sculptures are allowed due to religious reasons. In the current day, the temple is a bit far from the river but in the olden days, it is believed that the river flowed further inland.
