About

Shiva Linga in this temple was established by Pandava, Bheem. Therefore, the deity here is known as Bheemalingeshwara Swamy Temple. This temple is maintained by Thathaiya Mutt. Abisheka to Lord Shiva is done trice in a day.

This place is also closely associated with poet saint Narayanappa, who lived during the 18th century. He is considered highly proficient in Kanada and Telugu and was popularly called the “Kaivara Thatayya”. He had composed many Kirtanas in praise of Lord Vishnu, who graces here in the Amara Narayanaswami temple. He is also known for his prophetic work Kala Jnana about future events.

According to the legends, Pandavas stayed at the place called Ekachakrapura (presently known as Kaivara) during their exile. There was a demon named Bakasur, who terrified the people of this place. Bheem killed the demon at this place and restored peace. After killing the demon, Bheem did the penance here by establishing a Shiva Linga. Later a temple was built here and the deity here came to know as Bheemalingeshwara Swamy.
