About and History of Samatha Moorthi- Statue of Equality-Hyderabad

Samatha Moorthi- Statue of Equality-Hyderabad also referred to as the Ramanuja statue, is a statue of the 11th-century Vaishnavite Ramanuja, located on the premises of the Chinna Jeeyar Trust at Muchintal. It is the second tallest sitting statue in the world. The trust conceptualized the project of building the statue to commemorate 1000 years since Ramanuja’s birth costing an estimated Rs.1,000 crore (US$130 million), the project was paid for through the donations of devotees in a significant part.

In 2014, ascetic Chinna Jeeyar came up with the idea to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Ramanuja’s teachings by building a statue. The ground floor will be 6,000 square meters and depict Ramanuja’s life and philosophy. The temple, meant for daily worship, will be located on 27,870 square meters on the second floor. The 1,365 square meters third floor will include a Vedic digital library and research center. An Omnimax theatre in the shape of a planetarium featuring the life stories of Ramanuja was planned. It was named the ‘Statue of Equality’ by the trust.
