Lakshman Temple
Lakshman temple is an ancient temple located on the bank of the river Ganges. This is one of the special attractions situated at a distance of 5 kms from Rishikesh. This temple is dedicated to Lakshmana, brother of Lord Sri Rama. It is believed that this is the place where Lakshmana had meditated to seek spiritual enlightenment. It is also believed to be the place where Lakshman crossed the Ganges on a jute rope which is now known as Lakshman Jhula.
It has become the prominent place for devotees who seek blessings for peace, prosperity, and protection. The present structure was rebuilt in the 19th century and has undergone repairs and renovations over the years. Beautiful pictures are carved out on the temple walls with beautiful scenes from the Ramayana, including the life of Lord Rama, Lakshman, and Sita. The temple is built with stone and has a small sanctum where the idol of Lord Lakshman is enshrined.
Lakshman Jhula: Built in 1923 and it is a 450 feet long bridge and a popular landmark in the city. Currently the existing old bridge has been closed as the construction of the new bridge is in progress. One can only watch it from far and their is a river rafting, speed boat available near the bridge area which one can enjoy.
