About Rishikesh

Rishikesh often called as the “Yoga Capital of the World”. It is a serene town in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India. Located along the banks of the Ganges River and surrounded by lush green hills, it is the renowned for its spiritual and wellness practices. Rishikesh is popular destination for those seeking inner peace and rejuvenation through yoga and meditation.

Places to visit in Rishikesh

  1. Triveni Ghat: It is the holy point where the 3 sacred rivers- The Ganga, The Saraswati, The Yamuna merge. This ghat is famous for its mesmerizing ” Ganga Aarti” a spectacular that imbues the place with a divine aura. Ghat is open 24 hrs a day, all year round but the Ganga Aarti usually takes place at around 6 PM. It offers exciting rafting opportunities for adventure seekers. Entry fee is free. And avoid visiting it between July to September as heavy rains can make visiting the ghats difficult.

  1. Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhula

Ram Jhula: It is one of the oldest and an iron suspension bridge over the river Ganga in Rishikesh. The majority of the ashrams such as Sivananda Ashram, Parmarth Niketan, Gita Bhawan, Swargashram, Omkarnanda, Yog Niketan, and numerous others are situated close to Ram Jhula. Both the ends of the extension have a market with various kinds of shops and best street food stalls.

Lakhsman Jhula: Built in 1923 and it is a 450 feet long bridge and a popular landmark in the city. Currently the existing old bridge has been closed as the construction of the new bridge is in progress. One can only watch it from far and their is a river rafting, speed boat available near the bridge area which one can enjoy.

  1. Trayambakeshwar/ Tera Manzil Temple: Trayambakeshwar actually means “Abode of three eyed”. This is a 13 storey high temple located on the bank of the river. It is situated near to the famous Lakshman Jhula. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be one among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Locals believe that this temple was set up by Adi Shankaracharya. Temple timings: 6 AM to 7 PM. In proximity to this temple, their is a Swarg Niwas mandir,  another 12 storey temple with various idols of Hindu deities.
  1. Beatles Ashram/ Chaurasi Kutia: A sanctuary of spiritual enlightenment. It is one of the residence of Maharshi Mahesh Yogi who used as the training centre for students, who devised the Transcendental Meditation Technique. This site was abandoned in 1990’s and reverted to the local forestry department in 2003. It is one of the popular visiting place in Rishikesh.

  1. Waterfalls:
  • Neer garh waterfalls: Most famous waterfalls in Rishikesh.

Location: Neel ghar village, Uttarakhand. It is a approximatly 5 to 6 kms drive from Lakshman Jhula Road.

Best time to visit: Post monsoon

  • Garud Chatti waterfalls

           Location: Neelkanth Road, Rishikesh , Uttarakhand. It is located approximately 3 kms from Lakshman Jhula. One has to trek 1.5 kms from Garud Temple to reach this falls.

Best time to visit: Post monsoon

  • Patna waterfalls

Location: Neelkanth road, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. It is approximately 6.5 kms from Lakshman Jhula and located 3 kms after Garud Chatti waterfalls.

Best time to visit: Post monsoon

  • Phool Chatti waterfalls

Location: Sakalana, Uttarakhand. Take the road to Swami Samarpan Ashram, Tapovan.

Best time to visit: Monsoon and Post Monsoon.

  1. River rafting:

River Rafting experience in the white water rapids of River Ganga is one of the popular adventure to do in Rishikesh.

Cost- Varies from 600 to 3000 per person depending upon the grade of the rapid and the length of the rafting.

One can also try other water sports adventure like kayaking.

  1. Bungee jumping

Location: Mohanchatti  and Shivpuri

Maximum height – 83 metres.

Cost- 3000 to 4000 per person

 The other adventures are paragliding, mountain swings and flying fox.

Jolly Grant airport is the nearest airport which is 21 kms away from Rishikesh. From their one should hire a cab to Rishikesh.
