About Phaladhara Panchadhara
Phaladhara Panchadhara is a serene and sacred place located near Srisailam, a prominent pilgrimage site in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located approximately 4 kilometers from the main Srisailam temple, en route to the famous Sikharam viewpoint.
The name Phaladhara Panchadhara is derived from Lord Shiva—”Phaladhara” refers to the stream originating from Shiva’s forehead, while “Panchadhara” signifies the five aspects of Shiva. It is a natural spring where five small perennial streams emerge from the Nallamala hills. These are considered sacred and believed to be purifying. The streams are crystal clear and flow throughout the year, even in summer.
From the parking area, one has to descend about 160–180 steps into the forested valley to reach the streams.
Spiritual Significance
Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have meditated here during his visit to Srisailam.
During his meditation, it is said that these five streams sprang from the ground to quench his thirst and aid his penance.
- Adi Shankaracharya composed the famous ‘Sivanandalahari’, a devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Shiva here.
- Statues of Sarada Devi and Adi Shankaracharya have been installed at the site to honor its spiritual legacy.

The nearest major railway station is Markapur Road (MRK) – ~90 km from Srisailam and Hyderabad (Secunderabad or Kacheguda) – ~220 km. Take a bus or taxi from the station to Srisailam. Markapur Road is the closest, but Hyderabad offers more frequent train services and better road transport to Srisailam.
