Hassan District
Hassan is one of the districts of Karnataka, India, with Hassan town as its district headquarters. The district covers about 6,845 sq km and had a population of 1,776,421 at the 2011 Census, with a literacy rate of 76.06%. It is named after the Hindu goddess Haasanamba, meaning “smiling mother”, and is sometimes referred to as the “Poor Man’s Ooty” for its natural beauty and elevated terrain.
