Alampur is the connection (meeting) point of the sacred rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra and is referred to as Dakshina Kashi (also Nava Brahmeshwara Theertha) and the Western Gateway of Srisailam, the great Shaivite pilgrim center. The Sacredness of Alampur Sri Jogulamba Devi Temple is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. The principal deities at Alampur are Bala Brahmeswara and Sri Jogulamba Devi. The Nallamala hills surround it. Alampur was before known as Halampuram, Hamalapuram, And Alampuram. Below the name Hatampura, it was considered in the inscription dated AD 1101 and belongs to Western Chalukya Tribhuvanamalla 4th Vikramaditya.
Sri Jogulamba Devi Temple:
Sri Jogulamba Devi is the 5th Shakti Peeta among 18 shakti peetams in the country. Here Goddess Jogulamba is seen seated on the Corpse with scorpion, frog, and lizard on the head. She is seen in a naked avtar with her tongue stretched outside, an avtar of fierce goddess that grants Siddhi in Yoga and hence called Jogulamba. This word is a changed form of Yogula Amma in Telugu which means Mother of Yogis.
Sri Bala Brahmeswara Swamy Temple:
It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Alampur is named the town of Devasthanam and is famed for its sculptures. It is the largest and most prominent temple of the Nava Bhrama group of temples. This temple has good architecture. Chalukyas pulakesi-II built these temples in the 7th century. This temple is constructed in Nagar style and there is a large pillared veranda on all sides for outer Pradakshinas. The Tungabhadra and Krishna are seen in a confluence near Alampur, and hence it is also known as Dakshina Kailasam.
The temples have large Mukha mandapa, maha mandapa, and sanctum with a cross path for inner Pradhakshinas. The Sanctum Shiva linga is seen in the shape of a bull’s footprint. There are dwarapalakas in the doorway of the inner sanctum and lion images, goddess Lakshmi, Ardhanareswara, Vinayaka, Kalabirava, etc.
The inner Mandapa has Craved figures of Mahishashura Mardini, Saptamatrukas, Indra, and Agni along with the large Dancing Shiva on the ceiling. The pillar has a Yogamurthi image worshipping Lord Shiva. The Mahamandapa has a large bull statue. The inner cross path has figures of Kanyakumari, Ganesh, Umamaheswara, Hanuman, etc.
The outer verandah has large figures of Yama with Chitragupta, Kubera, and Surya. Several sculptures were placed from the temples to the museum. These are the temples that have regular pujas.
The Nava Grahas are installed on the southern side of the sanctum. There is a large Nandi statue on the corners of the roof. There are several other sanctums around this temple housing Someswara, Mahishasura Mardini, Sahasra Lingeswara, Nataraja, Moksheswara, Jambukeswara, etc.
There is a pillar on the northern side of the temple with the old signature temple, Also there is a large stone slab with the signature from the 7th century.
