Dharwad District

Dharwad is an administrative district of the state of Karnataka in southern India and is the cultural headquarters of North Karnataka. The administrative headquarters of the district is the town of Dharwad, also known as Dharwar. The district covers about 4,265 sq km and had a population of 18,47,023. Its name is derived from the Sanskrit words “dwar” (door) and “wad” (settlement), and it is known as the educational center of North Karnataka.
