Dandeli is a city in Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka State, India. This place is situated in Western Ghat, India. The Dandeli is well known for it’s teak plantation and it’s dense forest. The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, is also a home to animals including black panthers, monkeys and elephants, as well as many bird species. A temple stands at the entrance to the limestone Kavala Caves, known for their stalagmite formations. West of the caves, Anshi National Park encompasses the Kali Tiger Reserve.
Kali Tiger Reserve is a protected area and it’s a tiger reserve. This Tiger reserve consists of Bengal tigers, black panthers and Indian elephants. The Tiger reserve is spread over an area of 1300 square kilometers. On May 1956 this forest area was declared as Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, the proposal of Anshi national park was implemented on 2nd September 1987. Initially this was covered only 250 square kilometers, after the final notification by the authority the park area was extended by another 90 square kilometers in 2002. Later this was renamed as Kali Tiger Reserver in Dec 2015. This is not only the home of trees and wildlife but this is also home of several hydroelectric dams and nuclear power station (Kaiga Atomic Power Station). This National park and sanctuary is in responsibility of Principal Cheif Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and is headed by Director of the park who is also the chief Conservator of Forests.
This project is been developed jointly by Karnataka Tourism and Forest Departments will be thrown open for public on February 18 2018. Forest Minister Ramanath Rai, Industries Minister R V Deshpande and Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge will be present during inauguration.
Dandeli River Rafting
Dandeli River Rafting is conducted in River Kali in around 6 official locations designated by Tourism Department of Karnataka. Rafting and white water rafting are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water. Dealing with risk and the need for teamwork is often a part of the experience.
Timings to Visit
Short and Mid Rafting timing is 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Long Raftingtiming is 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
*Note: For long river rafting will have to book in advance and reach to spot according to time slot given.
Distance of Rafting:
Short water Rafting Distance – 1 to 2 km, Duration 30 Minutes.
Mid Water Rafting Distance – 5 km, Duration 1 Hour.
Long Water Rafting Distance – 7.5 km, Duration 1 to 2 Hours.
* Note: 12 years below children can enjoy Raft boating.
