Bengaluru Rural district, officially Bengaluru Gramin district, and Bengaluru Urban district, officially Bengaluru Nagara district, are two of the 31 districts of Karnataka. Bengaluru Urban covers about 2,196 sq km with a population of about 96,21,551 and is home to Bengaluru city, known as the “Silicon Valley of India”, with 5 taluks, 20 hoblis and 588 villages. Bengaluru Rural covers about 2,298 sq km with a population of about 9,90,923 and a literacy rate of 77.93%, with 4 blocks and 1,051 villages; the district includes Devanahalli, historically tied to the Kempegowda dynasty.
