Dakshina Kannada District
Dakshina Kannada, also known as South Canara, is a coastal district of Karnataka covering about 4,866 sq km, with a population of around 2.09 million and a literacy rate of 88.57% according to the district’s official website. Its headquarters is the port city of Mangaluru, which has also developed into an education hub with several reputed institutions. The district is bound by the sea to the west, the Western Ghats to the east, Udupi district to the north and Kerala to the south.
