Nagarkurnool District

Nagarkurnool is a district in the southern part of Telangana state, with the town of Nagarkurnool serving as the district headquarters. The district was carved out of the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district and covers an area of about 6,545 square kilometers, with a population of 8,93,308 as per the 2011 Census. According to the district’s official tourism page, Nagarkurnool was named after two kings, Nagana and Kandana, who were brothers.

Uma Maheswaram Temple — regarded as the north gateway of Srisailam, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve — described on the official tourism page as the largest tiger reserve in India, located near Mannanur.
Somasila — an eco-tourism destination near Kollapur, close to the backwaters of the Srisailam dam, per the official tourism page.
