About

Several Puranic legends surround the Pancharama temples, the most prominent being the story of Tarakasura’s destruction. When Lord Subramanya (Skanda) slew the mighty demon, the Shivalingam hidden in his throat shattered into five fragments. Each fragment fell at a different sacred spot, and those places became the five Pancharama Kshetras.

These are the Pancharamas

  1. Draksha Rama

Draksharama, the first of the Pancharamas, is located in Ramachandrapuram in the East Godavari district.

Here Swami is called Bhimeshwar. Swami Lingakaram is 60 feet high. Worship should be performed from the top floor. The uniqueness of this temple is that the gender is half white and half black.

Dakshaprajapati performed Yagna here. Hence the name Draksharamam. The temple is believed to have been built by the Chalukya king Bhima. In his Bhimeswara Purana, he wrote that in ancient times, many gods and kings were visited by Swami. The sculptures in this temple are magnificent.
