Davanagere is an administrative district of Karnataka state in India, with the city of Davanagere as its district headquarters. According to the official district website, the district covers about 5,924 sq km with a population of around 1,945,497, across 6 taluks. The name Davanagere is said to have evolved from an earlier name, “Devanagari.”
