Hyderabad District

Hyderabad district is in the state of Telangana, India, and contains part of the metropolitan area of Hyderabad. Its headquarters is located in Hyderabad. The district covers an area of about 217 sq km and has a population of around 39,43,323. Known historically as the City of Pearls, Hyderabad was once a global centre for the trade of rare diamonds, emeralds and natural pearls. The present-day Hyderabad district was formed in 1948 after the merger of the Atraf-a-Balda and Baghat districts, and was split into urban and rural districts in 1978, with this district covering the urban portion.
