Jagtial District

Jagtial District was carved out of the erstwhile Karimnagar district and is surrounded by the Nizamabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Peddapalli and Karimnagar districts, with three revenue divisions at Jagtial and Metpalli. The district headquarters is located at Jagtial town. According to the district’s official tourism page, the name Jagtial is said to derive from “Jag-jack” and “Tial-Tal,” the two European engineers credited with designing the 17th-century Qila Fort in the town.

The holy temple of Sri Laxminarsimha Swamy on the banks of the Godavari River at Dharmapuri Mandal headquarters is quite popular across the region.

Places to visit in Jagtial District

• Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple — honours Lord Narasimha with two distinct deity idols, and hosts the Lakshmi Narasimha Aalaya Jatara (March–April) and Mokshada Ekadashi (December).
• Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple – Jagtial — on a hilltop about 16 km from Jagtial and 40 km from Karimnagar, believed by devotees to offer healing for the sick and childless.
• Qila Fort, Jagtial — a star-shaped 17th-century fort surrounded by water, built in a European castle style; though partly in ruins, historical cannons can still be seen on the premises.
