Vijayapura District
Vijayapura, also known as Bijapur, is a district in Karnataka with Vijayapura city as its headquarters. The city was founded during the Chalukya dynasty of Kalyani between the 10th and 11th centuries and was later developed extensively under the Adil Shahi dynasty, which built over 50 mosques, more than 20 tombs, and a number of palaces here. The district covers about 10,498 sq km and had a population of roughly 21.8 lakh at the 2011 census.
