Jangaon District

Jangaon District is one of the districts in the state of Telangana. It was earlier part of the Warangal and Nalgonda districts before the re-organisation of districts in Telangana. The name Jangaon evolved from “jain gaon,” meaning “village of Jains.”

Places to visit in Jangaon District

  • Sri Ramachandra Swamy Temple, Jeedikal – local tradition associates the temple with Lord Rama’s exile, and it has a pond known for its stable water levels.
  • Palakurthy Someshwara Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple – local tradition holds that rishis practised penance here around 1,200 to 1,300 years ago; the burial monument of the poet-ruler Someshwar (c. 1160-1240) stands at the base of the hill.
  • Bammera Village – birthplace of the Telugu poet Bammera Pothana (1450-1510), known for translating the Bhagavata Purana from Sanskrit to Telugu.
